To take advantage of this service simply book as many days of Birth Cover as you need and then on those days you can call us at any time, day, or night. We will have put together a rota to ensure we know who will be covering when we receive your call, we will then arrange for your allocated trusted local child carer to make their way to your home.
Choosing childcare cover
If you’re lucky enough to have family and close friends nearby, they are the ideal solution. But it’s always a good idea to have a back-up plan in case they can’t get to you when labour starts.
You’ll also need to think through the practicalities of them looking after your children, such as if they’ll look after them at their home or yours. If you go into labour at night, will they be able to carry on looking after your children in the morning? Having another commitment like work might mean you need to find someone else who can take over from them.

Preparing for the birth
As well as preparing your child emotionally to spend time with a child carer while you’re having your baby, make sure the practical side is covered too. For example, leave a car seat if the carer will be driving them anywhere.
Write a note with as much information as you can provide about your little one's routine, house rules, allergies, favourite toys or comforter, emergency contact information and anything else you might think important.
Don’t forget other necessities, such as having bottles, clothes, spare bedding to hand for the child carer.
Keep talking to your child about what’s going to happen so they’re familiar with the plan. Reassure them that although no one knows when you’ll have their new brother or sister, when the time comes they’ll be well looked after.
